Let’s Do Some Catching Up!

OK, I have been a procrastinator this last year.  Trying to get my hands around all of the changes that have come my way, I think that I have started so many projects that are now setting here incomplete.  I decided that it is time to start finishing up some of them.  And I’m doing it before having to make a New Year’s resolution too! LOL!

I am still working on finishing just a couple of Christmas presents, but I threw in another project that I should have completed a long time ago……..

Wildlife Pillows

I started these wildlife pillows for one of my sons.  They were actually panels that I backed and machine quilted.

Beginning Panels

I have had them in my fabric stash for a long time, I think that they may actually be considered vintage (lol!).  So I cut off the border, selected two of them, and proceeded to quilt them. Since I had them so long I couldn’t match the fabric for the backing, and just plain brown didn’t seem right to me.  I finally came across a brown print this last year, that had most of the colors I was looking for.

Backing with a piece of the border

I added a piece of the border that I had removed from the front, and just made an envelope back closing.

Since his living room is in browns, and he is an avid outdoorsman, I think that these will work great!

One project down, yay! I think I’m on a roll!

Done!

Signs of Spring

I am having a slowwww adjustment period, moving from Arizona to Washington.  There have been very few days without rain, and I am use to the blue skies of Arizona, and this time of year, the warmth.  This isn’t a complaint, I am just admitting that it is taking a little more time than I thought it would.  Today, since the rain seems to have taken a break,  I took a few moments to get out and investigate a little closer, the things that I have been looking at through the windows, some signs of spring.

There are several gardens on our property, all of them needing my attention.  I am so thankful that the previous owner enjoyed seeing spring flowers.  She planted several sets of bulbs all around the property, including the wooded area behind the house.

There are several bushes showing signs of life, new leaves appearing and buds bringing the promise of future flowers….

This plant (yes, I need to research and find out the names of all of these plants.  I only know a few of them) has beautiful blossoms, and now new growth, where the red appears at the end of the branches.

I find this bush very striking!  The coral looking leaves have been changing, as the weather changes.  I think it’s hard to see, but at the ends of the branches it looks like there is a very small blossom.

As I wandered around, I found many more plants blooming than I realized there were from inside.  What a wonderful way to get some inspiration for spring projects!

It’s Time to Come Back….

I think that I have been kept away far too much!  We have been remodeling our home in Arizona, purchased a home in Washington state, and have moved about 1/3 of our present home, up to our new home.

I have missed blogging and sewing and sharing everything with all of you.  But I now think that it is time to give you a peek at our new cottage:

Our New Home

Now I took a ton!!! of pictures.  Mostly so I could remember a lot of the details of the house.  I was still unpacking and cleaning, etc. when I decided that I better get going and start snapping before it was too late and I had to catch a plane!  I will try not to bore you with these, but I thought that I would share a few at a time.

The Entrance!

Now some of these things will be changing over time.  The front door is a dark green, (now nothing wrong with green) but I think that I will end up making it red! It just seems right to have an entry door that says welcome!

As you can see, the trees on either side of the walkway need trimmed.  All of the gardens need thinned out, and weeded and tons of work.  But I am back here in Arizona, so it will have to wait.

I will be quiet now, and just show some pictures…

The front porch, as well as the deck on the back of the house is stained a redwood color, and I have plans to change that as well.

I don’t think that I mentioned that we have 5 acres.  The area behind the house is all wooded, and there is a small creek that flows back there. A small bridge is over the creek so you can get  into the woods to the rear of the property.  It is so quiet and peaceful there, a place that really transforms you.

There are many, many gardens here as you can see.  I cannot wait to dig in! Just a few more pictures of those……

OK, I think that I have probably done enough….lol! I can’t expect everyone to be as excited as I am, a long awaited dream!

Next time, I will give you a sneak peek at the inside…….

Thanks for taking the time to come by,

Take care,

Cheryl
