Well, it is not without a bit of sadness that it is time for me to close my ribbon shop, Creative Trims. This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but something had to give. There just is not enough time in a day for me to do everything I would like.
It’s getting to be that time of the year again! Busy, busy! And my thoughts are constantly whirling around, thinking about what I can do that hasn’t already been done. Coming up with new ideas can sometimes be easy, other times, not so. Here are a couple of my new shop items for the upcoming season:
An update on an old favorite, a grand Christmas wreath! Made from Moda – Basic Grey- Fruitcake fabric line. I love these fabrics! And I think that the cranberry & ivory dotted grosgrain add that special touch. This lovely wreath will add a big impact to any door, measuring 18″ across, and 17″ around the stuffed ring. Watch for others, I have plans to make more from the same line of fabric, but different prints and colors.
I so fell in love with this fabric:
Also from Moda, this is a heavy weight cotton towelling. I knew when I saw it that I had to think of something to make with it. The organic feel and texture, and the natural look just drew me in.
So I came up with this simple red striped table runner (since some don’t want ruffles), and this ruffled table runner.
Who can resist this wonderful nubby cotton runner, with ticking added to it? I love it! Perfect for that natural look all year round, or just to add that touch of red for the upcoming holidays! You can find all of these items now listed in the shop.
Stay tuned, more goodies are coming! Thanks!
Wow, things have really been busy here! I thought that I would share just a little about what I have been up to lately…
I have been working on a new line of items for The Stitchin’ Chicken shop, which I am calling my ‘Cottage’ line. I have collected several fabrics that work great in ‘cottage’ or ‘shabby chic’ styles of decorating, and I have had some ideas that I have been wanting to try out, adding small ruffles to the fabric baskets, and some simple flour sack towels. I really like how they have been turning out, and I think that they will work great for spring and the wedding season.
I have only done two sets so far, but have some others in mind. I will be expanding into other bags and pillows out of similar fabrics as we move further into spring and the Easter season.
These towels can also be hung from clips and used as a curtain across a window.
I have also been working on the organization of my sewing room, that I mentioned in my last post. There will be more about that soon, just a couple of projects to do to finish that as well!
Thanks so much for coming by!
Now that the weather here is looking like summer, I decided to start getting the front porch and back deck into habitable shape! lol! I have had a design for a simple, fun pillow in my head for some time and decided that it would be just the thing to start to brighten things up out there!
I love blue pillow ticking and red cotton fabric together, and I thought that the combination would be perfect to make a pillow for my adirondack chair. I chose some fabrics from my stash, that have been calling out to me for some time, and chose to just do a simple piecing so that they also stand out on their own.
I had some heavy weight pillow ticking left over from some other projects I had done, so I got that out, and here you are!
I barely had enough ticking left to do this pillow, so I did some creative thinking to be able to complete the back. I really love how it turned out. In fact, I love this pillow so much, I decided to make one for my shop.
I love the red with the blue ticking, it says summer!
It seems that all of my creative inspiration is going into my Etsy shops these days. It is so surprising how much work it is setting up a new shop. CreativeTrims is off to a good start. I keep ordering inventory, and that is where the real work is. Taking pictures, tracking inventory and listing is really quite time consuming, but fun too! And just a reminder, I have a Grand Opening sale going on over there which will end May 31. Use coupon code “GRANDOPENING10” to get 10% off your entire order (not including postage).
I have made a few items and put them in The Stitchin’ Chicken shop as well.
I am working from my current inventory here, and I have a very large box of burlap coffee sacks that I had purchased some time ago. So I am making some pillows and buckets from them. There will be more of these to come!
I am lining the buckets with cotton canvas, and also backing the pillows with it as well. It goes well with the burlap and is a strong material, so these things will hold up to use on the patio as well as in the house. I love the simplicity that these things bring to any room they are in.
I have also been researching a few new venues for selling my handmade items. I have scaled back on Artfire, switching from the Pro account to a free one. Things do sell there, but not nearly as well as they do on Etsy. I have found a couple of new venues, and started setting up a shop, free for now, over at Meylah. I really like how the layout is over there, and after I get everything listed, I may upgrade my account. If you get a chance, stop over there and check it out! There are blogs and tutorials, all kinds of things going on.
It is great to see what is evolving out in the handmade market, pretty exciting. And the support in the community is wonderful!
I have just joined in the world of tweeting too! Yes, I have tweeted about 3 times now! lol! I am always unsure of what I am doing and how it is going to work. I have had a few problems on Facebook lately, like accidentally posting the same post multiple times (I need to just leave my hand off of the mouse and let it think, before clicking again!).
Anyhow, now you know where to find me! I hope to do some sewing just for fun (not that I am not having fun now), but I would like to finish some of my projects.
Until next time, take care. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
Hi Everyone, I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend! For the most part, it was somewhat sunny here and the leaves on the trees are coming out full force now!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am having a GRAND OPENING SALE! over at CreativeTrims on Etsy.
This is a great time to stock up on some cute dotted grosgrain ribbon or rick rack! Just use the coupon code “GRANDOPENING2011” at the checkout and receive 10% off your total order (not including postage).
Thank you so much for your support!
Enjoy your day!
I know that it still seems like I am not here. I am still painting, and have made a few things for The Stitchin’ Chicken. But that will change soon! It is time that I let you know what I have been up to. I have opened another Etsy shop, Creative Trims! I have been so busy researching, purchasing, cataloging inventory and taking pictures!
I have consistently found that it is hard to find good quality trims at a reasonable price. Especially if you live in an area that doesn’t have a lot of fabric or craft stores. And to get a great price online, you usually have to purchase large amounts. My hope is to fill some of that void by doing the research for you, offering a variety of items and making them easy to purchase. (This is one of those ‘you can shop in your pajamas’ things! lol!)
I currently have 61 listings, but about 130 more items to take pictures of and list! I currently have ric rac, some by yardage and some by the spool, and in different sizes. Also grosgrain ribbon, again different sizes, in solid and polka dots.
These are just a few pictures of what is available. The inventory that I have to still list includes gingham ribbon and additional styles of grosgrain. I hope to be adding some vintage buttons and lace trims soon.
If you or anyone that you know may be looking for trims, please send them over to Creative Trims! Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular, and I will see what I can do to help you locate it.
Thanks so much for coming by!
